Ames Pet Resort’s training focuses on a calm mindset over perfect obedience, heavily utilizing ‘Place’ work and passive training. Each step in training is thoroughly discussed with the owner because we believe in teaching the owner just as much as teaching the dog. We utilize balanced training methods, pulling from all four learning quadrants. We understand that every single dog is different and learns in different ways. With our training services, Ames Pet Resort can provide an enriching training experience for you and your pet.

Day School Training | Board and Train | Private Lessons
Day School Training
Cost | $850
- Two days per week for four consecutive weeks
- Optional weekly payment plan available – requires a valid credit card on file
- Trainer to owner workload – 50:50
- Each day includes:
- Two one-on-one active training sessions – 15-30 minutes
- Two hours of daycare play OR 45-minutes of Private Playtime – depends on temperament test status
- One enrichment activity – puzzle toy, slow feeder with treats, frozen kong treat, flirt pole games, agility, etc.
Training Touch Points
- Learn new and maintain any already known obedience commands
- Learn important skills and expectations to help your dog through everyday situations by focusing on a calm mindset
- Work on improving any bad habits or nuisance behaviors
Extra Care We Offer
- Daily report cards, videos, and personalized handouts and resources regarding the dog’s training
- A private lesson with all of the dog’s primary owners at the end of the training
- Unlimited email and phone support even when not in school and after training at Ames Pet Resort is completed
Board and Train
Cost | $2500 (3) or $4000 (6)
- Three- or six-week consecutive days and overnight
- Optional weekly payment plan available – requires a valid credit card on file
- Trainer to owner workload – 90:10
Three-Week Program
- Basic obedience commands—sit, down, stay, come, place, heel—without treats and around distractions
- Work on eliminating bad habits or nuisance behaviors – jumping on people, door rushing, counter surfing, leash pulling, etc.
- Videos and personalized reports, handouts, and go-home booklet
- A private lesson with all of the dog’s primary owners at the end of the training
- Unlimited email and phone support after training at Ames Pet Resort is completed
Six-Week Program
- Basic obedience commands—sit, down, stay, come, place, heel—without treats and around distractions
- Ability to work through the stages of training at the dog’s pace with the longer program
- The best option for more serious behavior problems – biting, phobias, resource guarding, growling, fear aggression, etc.
- Work on eliminating bad habits or nuisance behaviors – jumping on people, door rushing, counter surfing, leash pulling, etc.
- Videos and personalized reports, handouts, and go-home booklet
- A private lesson with all of the dog’s primary owners at the end of the training
- Unlimited email and phone support after training at Ames Pet Resort is completed
- Remote E-collar (E-collar Technologies) and extensive training on how to use this training tool

Training Touch Points
- Location varies – prefer to start in the client’s home then around Ames if training requires
- One 45-minutes-to-1-hour lesson each week
