At Ames Pet Resort, your dog enjoys safe, supervised play. Daycare at APR provides exercise and enrichment, leaving them sleepy and worn out so you can take the day off. Our daycare consists of customized play with dogs of similar size, temperament, and play styles to meet your dog’s needs. Play sessions consist of up to 15 supervised dogs per group.

What Does My Dog’s Daycare Day Look Like?

At APR, we offer both large and small dog group play options with full-day and half-day daycare
programs.

  • Full Days include approximately 6 hours of group play, with your dog staying at the facility for more than 6 hours.
  • Half Days offer about 3 to 4 hours of play, with a stay of no more than 6 hours.

If your dog is an adolescent or still learning social cues & building confidence, they may be enrolled as a “One-Hour Dog”. This means they’ll enjoy one hour of supervised play followed by one hour of structured kennel rest. This rotation helps prevent overstimulation and supports positive social development.

Other pups follow a 2-hour rotation—two hours of group play followed by up to two hours of kennel rest.

Throughout the day, our trained attendants incorporate enriching activities such as recall practice, impulse control games, and structured “waiting” exercises, all using positive reinforcement techniques. Our goal is to make daycare not only fun, but also a valuable opportunity for mental stimulation and healthy development.

You’re welcome to pack breakfast or lunch for your pup, or you can choose from our fun snack add-ons like peanut butter Kongs or puzzle toys. To keep you in the loop, we send out daycare report cards once or twice a week, complete with photos and updates on how your dog is doing.
